One of my favorite things about living in California is the fact that our local farmer’s market goes almost all year. Other than a short break in December and January, the Modesto farmer’s market is there every Thursday and Saturday.
I try to get there early before it gets too crowded. I also go early to ensure I can buy several loaves of homemade sourdough bread! If you are a breadie (not a real word - it means someone obsessed with artisanal bread), then you know a good loaf of sourdough is hard to find. You can get a loaf of sourdough anywhere, but you can only get a high quality one that makes your mouth water from a highly skilled baker. And for me, that can be found from Matkat at the Saturday market!
I’ve also started to slowly build a collection of succulents. Thanks to Brian and his plant booth, I’ve been adding one each week. I won’t stop until my windowsill is full!
I genuinely look forward to the market each Saturday. It gets me out of the house and allows me to chat with local business owners, listen to the weekly musician, and get the best baked goods (I didn’t even get into the pastries from Blooming Camp Ranch!). What are your favorite weekend traditions? Do you also have a farmer’s market you love?
