In order to heal and overcome imposter syndrome and critical self-talk, you have to change the story within you that tells you that you're not good enough. This story does not define you, it just defines the messaging you internalized as you developed your sense of self. In this episode, which is part 2 of my talk on Imposter Syndrome, we're going to go into your past, into the moments when that negative self-talk took root, and change it in the moment it was created.

Managing & Healing Imposter Syndrome Part 2

Hello and welcome to The Healing Sanctuary. I’m your host, Melissa Field, and this week I’m continuing my conversation on Imposter Syndrome. I’m talking about this from a spiritual and energetic perspective, and as I get deeper into this today I’ll hopefully share some things with you that you haven’t heard before that will help you with your confidence and sense of self in this world.

If you have not listened to part 1, please go back to the previous episode and play that first. This episode is going to build on everything we talked about in that episode, and I do feel it’s important to hear part 1 before diving into part 2

In this part, I’m going to discuss healing imposter syndrome by using the quantum field. This is going to be a little different, but approaching my healing in this way has led to some of the biggest shifts I’ve made in my life. It’s essentially healing yourself by changing a low energetic frequency, such as sadness, rejection, or isolation, in the moment it was created, and then allowing that new frequency to ripple out and raise the vibration of yourself in the present moment.

What that means is you change the vibration you emit, or the frequency you receive on, not by changing who you are now, but by changing the moments that led to your vibration being low or blocked. Let me explain this a bit more through an example. Imagine there is a moment in your past when you experienced a deep sense of rejection. Perhaps a parent or care giver was not able to meet your needs, and the rejection you felt from their inability to love you created a story within you about not being worthy of any love, and you built your sense of self around this feeling of unworthiness.

This feeling of unworthiness carried forward, and is integrated into the person you are now. This story is creating a vibration within you, and your life is being created around everything that harmonizes with that low vibration. And because feeling unworthy of love is a difficult experience, your life feels like a series of difficult and disappointing scenarios.

Now imagine that you can go back and time and change the moment or moments that planted that story in your head. And imagine that who you are evolves through all of time to match that new story, until you become the person you would have been had you been unconditionally loved and supported.

This is what we’re talking about when we talk about healing through the quantum field. You’re changing the stories in your mind and the vibration you emit by changing the inception point when your vibration first started to go down.

Last week, we talked about how the experiences you had growing up shaped your perspective of who you are and how you fit in the world. We talked about that in terms of vibration, and how a low vibration will make you feel like a fraud or an imposter if you try to attain something that has a high vibration, such as success or leadership.

Shifting your thoughts and rewriting your story from your present self is a powerful part of healing. And now, what we’re doing today, is adding in another piece that will help to accelerate that healing. Using the quantum field to change the energy of your past will help those stories to shift even fast. I want to emphasize that this is not a substitute for working with your thoughts and stories in the present. Bringing awareness into how you talk to yourself now is key to getting yourself out of imposter syndrome.

I would encourage you to see parts 1 and parts 2 of this as working in tandem. You heal the energy of the past, allow it to ripple out and uplift and change your energy in the present, and then from that place, you use your new sense of self to shift your thoughts and stories in ways that are permanent and lasting.

This week, we’re going deeper into undoing your imposter syndrome by unraveling and rewriting the stories that led to the beliefs that tell you that you’re not good enough. As I talked about in last week’s episode, your sense of imposter syndrome is not telling you who you are or what you’re capable of. It’s telling you how you feel about yourself deep down. In order to change the feeling, you have to change how you see yourself. You have to live and breathe on a new vibration, and you have to integrate that new vibration as the dominant one within you.

This shift in vibration will not come form outside of you. Getting a promotion or a new job will not give you a confidence boost or change your self-esteem. In fact, it’s very possible it will make you feel worse, because you will question why you got this when deep down you believe someone else was more worthy or deserving. And again, this isn’t because you in fact don’t deserve it – you just don’t believe you do. And so today, we’re going to talk about how to shift that kind of belief in powerful and profound ways using the quantum field.

When you change your inner story using the quantum field, you rewrite your story as if you lived a life that was full of love, support, and encouragement. You go back in time, rewriting moments that dimmed your light into ones that are empowering and uplifting, and then you marinate in high vibrating energy so that it becomes you, right here and now, in this moment. This is not you erasing the past or pretending those hurtful or traumatic incidences never happened. Rather, it’s you releasing the energy those incidences created, and putting a new energy in their place.

Rewriting your story might sound like science fiction that has no basis in actual reality, but before you hit stop on this podcast, let me explain this deeper and in more detail, and then you can decide if it has any use to you in your own healing journey.

So first of all, what is the quantum field? This is a higher dimensional plane where all possibilities and probabilities exist from all of time. Past, present, and future, are all there, in energetic form. When I say a higher dimension, I’m talking about a place beyond our three dimensional reality, but not something “out there” like out there in the Universe. It’s here, with us and all around us, and you can easily access it in the same way you access different realities in your dreams. The easiest way to access and work with the quantum field is through meditation and highly focused visualization. We’ll come back to that later in the episode, when we do some visualization practice and play with this and hopefully have some fun experimenting with energy and possibility.

But before we do that, we need to cover the basics of what it is we’re doing and why we’re doing it. As I said, the quantum field is a higher dimension anyone can access that allows you a gateway to all possibilities and realities, including your past and future selves. We’re going to focus on your past self today, and what happens when you access and work with your energetic past. This is not the same as past life work, which is something I know very little about, but rather, the you that existed in the past in this life. Essentially, you’re going to work with your younger self at different points in your own growth and development.

Although you will be working with yourself as a child, this is also different than what many people consider inner child work. That kind of work is generally done with a therapist or a psychologist, and it’s extremely powerful and beneficial in its own right. What that is, in essence, is working with the child within you that is still running your emotions and reactions. It’s you on an inner level. When you access the quantum field it’s not the you within, but the you that you were that still exists beyond who you are now. It’s like if there were a string of Christmas lights, and you’re one light here, and down the line are all the versions of you that came before you, and they’re all connected and accessible through this string. When you change a light down the line, in the so-called past, it changes how you, as a light further up the line, shine. When you heal a light in your “past” and allow it to shine brighter, then you, here and now, receive that burst of electricity as it goes up and down the line and you shine brighter yourself.

This theory that all of time is happening at once is rooted in quantum physics, and I am not in a position to even try to explain or truly understand it. I do believe that one day, many years from now, we will have a much better understanding of this, and it will be taught in a way that will allow more of us to understand it. But for now, I have to leave the science to the scientists, and just say that I’m explaining this as best I can, and if it sounds interesting then I’d encourage you to do some further research on your own, and if you do, be sure and let me know what you find.

In order to work with your past self, you have to first be open to the idea that every moment you’ve ever existed in does still exist, just not in physical form. There is the you that is here and now, and you are right now both physical and energetic. Then there is the past you, which still exists but only in energetic form. This you may not be physical, but it is still very much real.

Imagine if you could, a moment in your childhood when you were in desperate need of some love and encouragement. And imagine if you could go back to that self, step into that moment, and hold yourself and tell yourself that you’re loved. And now imagine that not only did your self receive that love in that moment, but that it changed everything that came after, all the way up until you arrive at your present self.

This is a basic example of what you can do with the quantum field, and we’ll go into a deeper example when we go into the practice.

Before I go on, I want to remind you that working with your past can be very emotional, maybe even overwhelming, especially if there is some for very big and deep trauma there. Diving into your memories and your past is something you should only do if you feel safe doing so. If you’re not sure, please be sure and talk to a trauma informed counselor or a professional therapist who can you guide you through your past in safe and structured way. Because every person is different, I cannot tell you what’s right for you or what you’re ready for. So please listen to yourself, pause this now if you need to, and always be as gentle and compassionate with yourself as possible.

In many ways, when you work with your past self in the quantum field, you become the person you always dreamed of before you ever arrived in this moment. You don’t start NOW and try to become something, but you become it in the so-called past and let yourself go forward with it already inside of you. So for example, let’s say that your dream in life is to be a motivational speaker. Consider now what the energy of an in demand motivational speaker would be like. It’s a person that would walk around radiating self-confidence, energy, and expansion.

Now imagine, that that person was constantly belittled throughout their life, and the energy they embodied was one of insecurity, introversion, and passivity. They never felt comfortable asking for what they want, but were always waiting for permission just to be themselves and live their life. This person knows deep in their heart they have valuable things to share and say. They know they can uplift people with their words and their wisdom. But whenever they walk on stage, they bring with them the energy that has dominated their whole life. They feel small. They feel incapable. They feel like an imposter. And because their energy is anxious and contracted, they feel it’s telling them who they are and what they’re capable of, when really, it’s just telling them that they never learned how to believe in their own worth.

Now imagine that this person goes into their past and inserts a new program, like a disk being put into a computer, that reprograms all those false beliefs that made them doubt themselves. They see who they would’ve been as a teenager if they were confident, who they would’ve been as a young adult, what actions they would’ve taken, and they see their life from this empowering and energizing perspective. The more they watch their story from this perspective, the more they practice and internalize a new energy. They now radiate the energy of a person who is worthy of leadership and inspiration. Nothing has changed about the person, they were always worthy and capable, they just couldn’t feel it or experience it because their energy was stuck on the wrong vibration. When they run the new program, and emit a new vibration, they come into harmony with who they really are, with their potential and their gifts.

This is the essence of working with yourself in the quantum field. You are reorienting yourself to a new frequency, a new vibration, in a way that changes who you are in the core of your being. A lot of times when we work with our thoughts and seek to empower ourself, it can feel like we’re putting on a costume, almost as if we’re putting a new identity on top of the one we already have. When you change your past self through the quantum field, you aren’t putting something on top of what you already know, but rather, changing things from their point of inception so that your essence, your sense of self, is reprogrammed in every layer of your being.

At this time, I’d like to walk you through some visualization exercises so that you can experience this. If you’re driving or doing something that doesn’t allow you to focus, please hit pause and come back to this when you can. You’re going to revisit some stories that you would like to have experienced differently, and so it’s important that you do this in a place where you won’t be disturbed. This practice is deeply healing, but can also bring up a lot of emotions, so be sure and give yourself time and space to do this privately and in a way that feels nurturing and supportive. And if you’re not sure if you want to dive into your past of if it’s not safe for you to explore your memories on your own, please be sure and talk to a therapist or professional who can help you to find what’s best for you.

I’ll give you a moment to settle in if you aren’t sitting down, and if you need to, hit pause until you’re ready to do this visualization portion. I’m going to play some light music for this part to help your mind relax and focus.

Hopefully you are now sitting in a quiet space where you’ll have some time to yourself. If you haven’t already done so, please close your eyes.

We’ll begin by taking a deep breath together, in through the nose and out through the mouth.
Breathe in. Hold. And breathe out. Continue to breathe slow and relaxed through your nose.
Bring your awareness fully onto your breath. As you breathe in, think in. And as you breathe out, think out. Note each breath in and each breath out, in and out, in and out.

And now, as you breathe in, breathe in a feeling of calm. And as you breathe out, feel as if your body is melting. Feel your body releasing, feel the muscles relaxing, and feel yourself opening and expanding. Breathe in calm and breathe out and melt.

I want you to now begin to visualize yourself when you were a child, particularly at a time when you were in need of something you weren’t getting. Find yourself at an age anywhere between 2 and 10 years old. Try not to force yourself to see yourself at a point you think you need to go to, but instead, let your mind go where it wants to. Let your inner self guide you to the time that would be most helpful to you right now.

As you see this version of you, let details fill in that will make it real. Notice what kind of clothing you wore, how you did your hair, and where you were. Notice what you see and hear. What can you reach out and touch? Who is with you? What are you doing at the time?
And as you sit with this version of you, I want you to take note of how real this version of you is. See this you as someone who is still very much alive energetically, and let yourself feel your love for your own self, for where they are and for who they are.

As you continue to focus on your childhood self, I want you to begin to see them receiving whatever it is they needed most. See it as if it’s an alternate reality, and in this reality, everything happens in the best way possible. In this reality, your childhood self gets the love, affection, support, and encouragement they always needed. They are given what they need to feel safe and secure. Their feelings are validated. They are loved unconditionally for who they are. They are listened to and valued, and they feel without question, that they are valuable and worthy.

As you see this reality unfolding, notice who your childhood self becomes. Notice what they internalize about themselves. Notice what stories they tell themselves about who they are, their potential, and the world around them. Notice what they do different. Notice what their energy is like.
 
And now, go forward in time with this alternate version of you until you’re about 12 years old. See yourself in middle school, finding your own identity, and feeling safe and secure in it because of the love and support you had in the past. See yourself knowing that you have a solid and safe support system, and that you are safe in who you are. See the person you become when you feel loved and encouraged and allowed to be your own self. Notice how you feel about yourself and how you to talk to yourself. Notice what your energy is like, and how you express yourself.
 
Once again, go forward several years, until you’re in high school. See yourself at this time still receiving all the love and support you need. See the people in your life celebrating you and encouraging you. See the person you would become at this age if everything in your past had been loving and supporting towards you. See what your energy is like and what you do different. See only good, positive, and encouraging experiences.

And now go forward many years until you’re a young adult. See the person you become when you’ve been nurtured and allowed to be your full self without fear. See the person you become when your life has been full of love and support, and you’ve been surrounded by loving and encouraging people. See what you do with yourself, what you feel is possible for you. See yourself pursuing things with this energy, and with this vibration of self-love.

Once more, go forward in time until the age you’re at now. Feel what it would be like to have grown up with these expereriences and this energy. What would your energy be like now? How would you feel about yourself? How would you talk to yourself? What kind of friendships, relationships and experiences would you cultivate? Sit with this for a minute, and let the energy of this self integrate into you. Know that this person is already within you. You are this person. You just need to bring it out in yourself, and are already in the process of bringing this new you forth right now.
 
Bring your awareness back onto your breath. As you feel your breath coming in and out, bring your awareness into your body. Feel yourself breathing in this moment, in the space you’re in.

As you fully return your awareness to yourself, give yourself some love for the journey you just went on. When we go through the quantum field in this way, it can bring up a lot of feelings. I often cry when I do this, and if you felt emotional in any way, know that that’s a natural part of the process. When we rewrite our past energy experiences, we often experience a release of the original energy that was low or created blocks. For me, energy releases through tears, but for you, it may have released in some other way, or it’s possible it will release later, through spontaneous movement or exercise, and just know there’s no right or wrong here. Just follow your intuition and inner guidance.

When we see our lives from this perspective, and we see the person we could have been, it can also bring up a lot of emotions for the person we never got to be. There can be grief for the person we could have been, and know that this grief is also natural and a part of your healing.
What I find helpful when I’m experiencing grief for my past selves is to reflect on the wisdom I gained for having gone through what I did. I have a deep understanding of anxiety, trauma, depression, and mental health, and that’s allowed me to be a much kinder, more passionate, and more compassionate person. Which isn’t to say I’m glad it happened. There’s never a moment when I’m grateful for the worst of my experiences. But I am always working on ways to be at peace with them, for the sake of my own healing and also to help bring out the person I would have been had I not experienced my traumas, because she is in there, and I see and feel her coming forth more and more all the time.

What I want you to know is, it’s not going to be an instant shift to the person you’re finding within you. It’s going to take time to release your old stories and to integrate the energy of your new self. You have an energy you’ve known your whole life, and if you had a lot of negative experiences, that energy might vibrate with feelings of low self-worth and self-doubt. Shifting to a new energy will take time to acclimate to, so please be patient with yourself and know that this isn’t a race. Going slow and gentle is part of the healing process, it incorporates self-love in a way that may have been missing before. Take your time and know this is you, exploring your inner world and giving yourself all the love and support you deserve and have always deserved.

Celebrate yourself for the person you are, for the strength you have and the resilience you have, and celebrate yourself for the person you’re becoming, and know that both are valuable and both are good and beautiful versions of you, each with different gifts to offer this world.Finding this new self isn’t about finding a “perfect” version of you, but about finding happiness and inner peace and other feelings that you deserve to be experiencing.
