About twenty years ago, when I was in my early 20's, I wanted to travel for the first time. I wanted this more than anything, and fantasized about being in exotic, foreign lands every time I was bored.
Other than a few family vacations to other states, I hadn't actually been anywhere. And at the same time, all of my friends had passports and been to places I could only dream of. Not only that, but they were also graduating from college and moving forward with their lives in solid, tangible ways. I myself had dropped out of college and was working as a night janitor for a medical office. I knew I wanted to be a writer, but I didn't know much else. And so I spent my days writing, my nights cleaning, and felt a sort of existential dread for my future. I often wondered if this was it for me, if all of my daydreams had been delusions, and I needed to forget this dream and figure out a real plan for my life. Within two years of what felt like a dead end existence, I would be in one of the farthest and most remote corners of the world. I would be spending six months in Antarctica, and not only that, but I would have the entire trip paid for, including the time I spent in New Zealand on my way in and out. This all seemed like a magical dream, like the most miraculous turn of good fortune and good luck that one could imagine. What I didn't know at the time, and what would take me years to understand, was that I had first created this experience from an internal place. Without knowing it, I had energetically created this experience, which then allowed it to manifest as a physical experience. How did I do this? Keep reading to find out and to learn how you too can use visualization to manifest amazing trips and experiences! Right now, you might be wondering to yourself, but why did you visualize Antarctica? What was it about the coldest and driest place in the world that drew you there? In all honesty, this was something I'd never even thought about. And this is one of the most important but also challenging aspects of manifestation. What you envision and what the Universe delivers are rarely going to be the same exact thing. BUT, and this is a big but, what the Universe does deliver is going to be so much bigger, better, and more fulfilling than anything you yourself could imagine. The Universe can see all possibilities, including the ones you don't know are available to you. It can see what will work out best for you, what will fulfill your soul, and what you might not know you need, but is exactly right for you. And so, no, I never imagined myself going to Antarctica. And if I'd stuck to my desire, to travel throughout Europe, without any flexibility, it's very possible I never would have gone anywhere! What I find most amazing about all of this was how much I loved my time in Antarctica. It holds some of my best memories, I met some lifelong friends there, and I discovered a person within me that I never knew existed. I truly left as one person and came back home as someone else entirely. To make a long story short, I was hired to work on a research base there as a dishwasher. They flew me down, I lived in a dorm, ate in a cafeteria, and saved all the money I made. Which meant... drum roll please... not only did I manifest this experience, but I was able to travel to Thailand, Laos, and Bali afterwards! Talk about a dream come true! At this point, I'm sure you want me to get to the point. What is the HOW of it all? How did I manifest this? Let's get into it!!! Manifesting, at its core, is feeling as if you're experiencing something before it ever exists in your physical reality. Rather than having a desire to go travel, you have to feel as if you're there already. You have to see yourself walking down the streets of Italy, eating a gelato, speaking Italian (or attempting to), and truly seeing your feet on those cobble stone steps, breathing in the ancient air of Rome, and loving every minute of it. Feeling into the fact that it will feel good to be there is an essential part of this. I know it can be tough to get into those feelings, because if you could feel them now, you'd just be there, right? Why would you want to feel something BEFORE you experience it? Isn't that the whole point of the experience??? Not necessarily. Have you ever been in happy anticipation of something? Let's say, your best friend is about to get married. Would you honestly wait for the wedding to feel all the joy and love this brings up in you? Isn't it more wonderful to feel those feelings ALONG the way, like a wave carrying you into one of the most beautiful nights of your life? This is what you're doing by feeling it BEFORE it arrives. You're building energetic momentum that aligns you with what's coming, and when it arrives, those feelings just get bigger and more expansive and it just gets BETTER. This, in essence, is was what I was doing every time I got bored and daydreamed about myself in Europe. In my mind, I wasn't working a dead end job and going nowhere in life. I was having an ADVENTURE. I felt the feelings so fully that I experienced it in my mind LONG before I even thought about needing a passport. I felt how good it would be to wake up there. I felt how satisfying and exciting it would be. I felt the joy of telling people my own travel stories. I lived and breathed adventure before there was even a hint of it coming my way. And because the Universe could see that there was no way to get me to Europe at that exact time, it found the experience that included all of those feelings that was available now. It got me the adventure I was dreaming of. And even better - this led to other jobs, which led me to being able to pay for my own trip to Europe a few years later. It all worked out. But I had to let go and trust and surrender to the process. The important thing to note about this is, feeling as if it's here is the opposite of the feeling of the desire itself. To desire something is to be aware that it's not here. It's you tuning into the lack, and saying to yourself, I want something more than what I have now. To desire something is absolutely an important step. It's not one to be skipped over or maligned or frustrated by. In fact, the bigger the desire, and the more fully you want something, the bigger the manifestation, so feel those desires fully and completely.
This whole process began with me being jealous of my friends who were travelling the world. I wanted what they had. I wanted it in every cell of my body. I deeply desired it, in a way that burned inside of me, and this in turn fueled the inner visions of what it would feel like to be there.
The problem is, most of us get stuck in the desire stage. We stay fixated on what's not here, and because the Universe will ALWAYS mirror our inner world back to us, if your inner world is living the experience of lack and disappointment, then your outer world will live this reality also. In order to take something from a desire to a hold-it-in-your-hands physical manifestation, you've got to move past the desire stage. You've got to let go of any frustration or sadness or resentment over it not being here, because that just keeps it away longer. You've got to let the desire go, feel as if it's here, and trust that it's all being worked out, and better than how you imagined. The more you can trust and EXPECT the next step that will get you there is coming, the faster it will come. In some ways, it's that simple. But in other ways, getting out of our own way and letting the Universe do its thing can really challenge us. Turning our thoughts away from the lack and onto the feeling that it's here now can sometimes feel impossible. To help you experience what that would be like, right here and now, I'd like you to try this 5 minute visualization. Use this visualization to see yourself experiencing your trip or vacation. This will help you to feel how quickly you can shift your inner world and energetic momentum - 5 minutes isn't a lot of time, but it can DO a lot. And also, because it's guiding you, your mental chitchat won't get in the way, and you'll get into those feelings much easier. 5 Minute Visualization
