How to Surrender and Let Go - Six Easy and Doable Tips

In my latest episode of The Healing Sanctuary (the podcast), I discussed the power of surrender and letting go when manifesting and working with the Law of Attraction. During that episode, I shared six tips that you can do right now that will help you to shift out of fear and into the freedom and magic of surrender.

Tip #1: Meditation

Meditation is well known for its ability to reduce stress and increase focus. Another great benefit of meditation is that it can help with the process of surrendering and letting go! Spending just 10 minutes a day in meditation can help you to return to your ease and trust in the Universe.

If you find it hard to sit and meditate because your thoughts won't quiet down, try a guided meditation. Guided meditation will help to distract your mind and quiet your thoughts. It will also help you to feel into the calming vibration of the person leading the meditation, bringing you an extra dose of ease. ​Tip #2: Visualization

I talk about the power of visualization A LOT. I am deeply passionate about it because I have experienced so many incredible results, shifts, and quantum leaps from it! 

I am often asked what the difference between meditation and visualization is. In a nutshell, meditation is a passive experience. It's a clearing away, a release. Visualization is an active experience. It's you consciously creating with the infinite energy of the Universe. Visualization is an effective and expansive way to quickly and effortlessly raise your vibration, which will get you out of lack and into the feeling of knowing your dream is manifesting.

Essentially, visualization will help you to let go of the lack or focus you have on what's not here. It will instead, shift you onto what you want to feel. Surrender and letting go are not about giving up on what you want - they're about letting go of the feelings that block you from energetically aligning with what you want. When you visualize and step into a higher vibration, you naturally let go and shift into a different space.

​Tip #3: What makes you happy?

This is the tip that can be the hardest to embrace. Often, when we're in a state of lack, fear, or doubt, the last thing we want to do is take our foot off the gas pedal. We want to do everything we can to shift things and get the results we want. We don't want to lose our focus for a single second.

However, until we shift INTERNALLY, until we shift the energy we are emitting (I go much deeper into this and explain it in the podcast episode), nothing will change EXTERNALLY.

This is why taking time to focus on what FEELS GOOD is so powerful. It shifts your energy. It gets you off the low vibrations and onto the high vibrations. This doesn't have to be a big thing. In fact, the smaller and easier, the more likely you will be to feel you can set time aside for it.

For example, one things that makes me feel good is coffee. I love the whole ritual of brewing a cup of espresso. I grind my own beans, I smell the aroma of the coffee as it brews, I steam the milk, and I savor every step. And then I sit with my little espresso, sip slowly, and marinate in how good it feels.

A cup of coffee is not a big thing. In fact, it's a daily thing with no special significance at all. But when I slow down and enjoy my daily espresso, I feel so good and happy. I sip slowly, thinking about what I'm grateful for, what I'm looking forward to, and reflecting on what's going right. It's because this ritual is so small that it allows me to relax, slow down, and just be for a few minutes.

​Tip #4: Get creative!

This is perhaps my favorite tip, because I love creativity. I love making art and expressing myself and playing with color and spontaneous activity. 

I also love creativity because it brings you into direct alignment with the Universe. The Universe itself is creative. It is constantly creating and re-creating itself and expanding and evolving. When you get creative, your energy lines up with the ENTIRE infinite potential of the Universe.

The block most people have to doing something creative is feeling that they're not good at anything, so they're not allowed to paint, draw, sew, or do whatever it is they feel drawn to. Listen up, my friend. You do not need permission to be creative. You do not have to make anything perfect. You don't even have to make something remotely good. I can't even tell you how much stuff I've made and thought afterwards, "Wow, that looks like shit!" But it doesn't matter. You're not in it to become the next Picasso.

Your entire purpose for playing with paint, yarn, mosaics, ink, and art supplies is the enjoyment of the process. It's in letting go for a little bit and focusing in on the present moment. And if you like what you make, wonderful! If not, throw it away. You are not obligated to do anything with what you make, because again, it's the process, the feelings you experience while doing it, that matter.

​Tip #5: Make a list of your own personal examples and experiences  

During the episode, I listed three examples of times I let go, forgot about something, and then had it workout better than I had expected. This is a POWERFUL step and one you do not want to skip.

Most often, when things are not working out, we completely block out all the times things DID workout. We forget all about the magic we experienced in the past, and come to believe we are alone and the Universe is not on our side.

When you write down all the past magic, you get back into a state of trust and flow. And when you remember your own personal experiences, you get into that state even deeper and easier. It may be hard to think of anything, especially if you've been stuck in the fear and lack for awhile, but once you start writing, you'll build momentum, and you'll be surprised how much comes to you.

Much like my love of a cup of coffee, this isn't just about the BIG stuff. This is about anything, no matter how small, that delighted or surprised you. In truth, the small stuff is just as important as the big stuff, because it's all energy. 

Tip #6: Personal empowerment

When I get deep into a spiral of fear and negativity, all of my energy starts to align with feeling helpless and powerless. This in turn builds on itself, bringing me more things that make me feel small, afraid, and alone.

If you're in this space also, you want to restore your feelings of personal power. Once again, this does not have to be big! This does not have to be something like climbing a mountain.

It's anything that makes you feel a sense of capability and trust in yourself. It's anything that reminds you that you are not helpless, but in fact, a strong and purpose filled person.

For me, that can be something as simple as brewing my beloved cup of coffee. Yes, really! When I brew coffee, I get so into it that I treat each cup like it's the most important cup of coffee that's ever been made. I am so interested and passionate about coffee that I feel purposeful and energized by the process.

Making myself a cup of coffee doesn't save the world. It's not something I'll ever get an award for. But for me, when I do it, I feel so good in my mind and body that I forget all my fears, self-doubts, and insecurities, just for that moment. I don't know much. But I know how to make a good espresso. And because energy is energy, when I'm in that good energy, I'm in a space of total alignment.
