Tonight I was at the beach, enjoying the sunset. Warm water was washing over my feet. I was totally relaxed and at peace. As the sun was going down there were hardly any clouds in the sky. It was nice, but it made me realize how much more spectacular a sunset is when there's clouds around.
I love when the sun goes down and there's just the right amount of clouds to add color, contrast and depth to the sky. It's breathtaking and peaceful all at once. As I watched this sunset, the sun did catch a bit of clouds as it neared the water. As it did so, it made me think of how important it is to have contrast and clouds in our own lives also.
The light in our lives is so important, and it's really what we live for. But to only have light would essentially render the light meaningless. It's feelings like fear, doubt, anger and even resentment that bring meaning and color to the light. As the light breaks through them, making our own inner sunsets, there's no feeling quite like it. It's illuminating and beautiful and shows us something about the light we couldn't see otherwise.
In life, as with sunsets, there will always be clouds that darken the sky. But the clouds are nothing to curse and nothing to wish away. Sometimes, they're the thing that makes the whole view worthwhile, and the thing we get the most out of.
