Photo credit: Charmaine Olivia When I look at this painting I can't help but think of Frida Khalo. I think of Frida's passion and her tenacity. I think of her courage and her fire. I think of how Frida's paintings always contained so much of her soul, and how she wasn't afraid to create things that were unusual and about the unconscious self. The girl in the painting doesn't really resemble Frida, but I can't help but see the spirit of Frida every time I look at this. The colors are so expressive and there's such a sense of femininity. Yet it's not a gentle femininity, it's one that makes me think of power, almost in a regal way. I find all of the colors coming from her head put the emphasis on the woman's mind, her creativity and passion, and to me, that expresses so perfectly that her beauty, all beauty really, comes from within.
