I read this thing in a book recently that I found to be so simple and effective. It was talking about when emotions arise that can make you feel contracted rather than expansive. I think this is a great way to categorize emotions. You know which ones make you feel like your body is tense and tight, locked in, like your energy has stopped flowing and everything is pushing in against you. Things like anger, regret and fear contract you. Where as happiness, love and trust open you up and you can feel the lightness of everything having that infinite flow to it.
This book said that when a contracting feeling comes up just tell it, "Thank you but no thank you." And then focus on the emotion you do want to feel instead. This is a great way to step into your role as the conscious creator of your life as you begin to master choosing your emotions. It'll also allow even better things to show up for you as you're constantly going to be shifting into the higher vibrating feeling. I've been using this and I love it. A great time to play with this is with something that really gets you going but isn't a deep trigger. So you might not want to start with someone who knows exactly how to poke your deep wounds. Instead, try something like when you're in the car, just as you're about to descend into some serious anger at the person in front of you who's driving in a way that royally pisses you off. What good does your road rage do anybody? There's plenty of bad it's doing - it's causing stress to flare up in your body, and stress is a major factor in many illnesses, such as heart conditions. It's also putting your focus on what you don't like, rather than allowing you to see what you do like. Rather than going into those contracting emotions say, "Thank you but no thank you," to the anger. See the anger as a real thing, like a ball or a cloud, a thing being offered to offered to you that you're kindly passing up. And then notice the blue sky, the trees, a song you like on the radio. Whatever it is that is expansive and happy. Tell yourself, "For my highest good, I won't allow those heavy feelings to be in my life, my body or my energy. I choose to feel good for me, and I choose these good feelings above all else."
