This morning I popped into the grocery store and grabbed a pour over from the Starbucks kiosk on my way out. I didn't have my reusable cup on me, so I was given one of their spring cups, which can be drawn on and decorated in any way you like.
I decided that my cup would be blessed with all kinds of good thoughts, and so instead of drawing, I wrote I Am... followed by all of the things that I want to feel in my life. I love having this on my cup so much I might just keep this cup for a few days! Below is my cup, which has my sweet cat Sunny hanging out with it. Now this is how I like to start my day!

One of the most miraculous things about our bodies is how they grow, without being told how to do so, from a clump of cells into a fully formed adult. Have you ever thought about how truly mysterious this is? Once you were born, an infant growing freely on your own, you didn't put food into your body and use your brain to think, Okay now body, break down this food, separate the nutrients, send them to the places they are most needed. Build my bones - not too big! But not too small - and build my muscles, tendons, and joints, and make sure to keep it ALL in balance. And then take the waste and efficiently separate it and then expel it. Got it body? You've never once directed your body in how it would transition from infant to adult. Things inside your body, like DNA, RNA and mitochondria worked around the clock, independent of your mind, to do this. There is innate intelligence in your body, which is different than the intelligence of your mind. But this intrinsic intelligence does exist in every cell of your being. If it didn't, your heart would stop beating when you sleep. Your cells would cease to replicate on their own. Your growth would have gone haywire, with your arms eight feet long, your eyes in the back of your head, and so on. And your body would've gone, "Well nobody taught me how to read the DNA!" Which is strange, isn't it? Your body wasn't taught how it all worked. It just knew. If your body didn't have this inner knowledge, essentially, your entire day would be focused on keeping yourself alive, rather than enjoying your existence. Which makes me want to say, Thank you body. So often we feel our bodies are ruining our lives by not looking or behaving how we want, and yet a body IS life. And of course, there are times when a body really does give us reason to feel depressed. Some bodies are paralyzed, or don't grow limbs, to which we might think, Damn this stupid body. But even when something isn't as we think it should be, the amount of things going right every second is mind boggling. Unless, at this moment, you are a puddle of goo, a staggering amount of things are working correctly. Organs are functioning. Bones are pumping out millions of fresh, healthy blood cells. Oxygen is coming in, rejuvenating your heart, and then releasing the old. Tissue is rebuilding. Synapses are firing. Cilia are filtering. And on and on. The truth is, one cell, just one cell of your body, is as complex as a Boeing 747. You don't just have hundreds of those complex units within you. You have TRILLIONS. That is trillions of dynamic, brilliant, and mysterious parts, all working together to make you. And consider this - if you were to throw an engine, wires, bolts, and scrap metal into a giant blender, would a Boeing 747 come out of it? Would it make anything even remotely close to a working, mechanical body?
And yet... here you are, made from seemingly discordant elements, all working together harmoniously. Your existence isn't random. There's no way the parts that made you could come together spontaneously. That would be like blowing up a house and expecting those scattered pieces to land somewhere and come back together in the exact way they blew apart. There is a Higher intelligence involved in it. We all like to call it something different. We have many different ways of thinking about it. But the truth is, something was involved in your creation, and that something, it's a part of you. Higher Consciousness, divinity, God, whatever you want to call it - it's in your building blocks. With each beat of your heart, you are beating in rhythm with the Source of the Universe. Your body isn't just your vehicle in this life. It's your living, breathing connection to the Divinity that exists within you and as a part of you. Your body is miraculous. You are miraculous. Without you, the Universe would not be as colorful. It wouldn't be as complete. It would be just a little bit dimmer. Your light is a remedy to the darkness. I don't know about you, but I'm so glad you're here. To stand before you is to stand before something as holy and spectacular as all the stars in the sky. Lucky is the person who gets to bask in your glory. And glorious you are. You just need to realize it. |
